1985年毕业于中国农业大学,1991年获得伊利诺伊大学香槟分校博士学位。1985年至至1986年任教于中国农业大学,1986年至1987年,明尼苏达大学访问学者,1987年至1999年,历任伊利诺伊大学香槟分校助理研究员、研究工程师,加拿大国家科学院建筑研究所研究员,1999年11月至今,在雪城大学任教,历任雪城大学副教授、教授,2018年至今任南京大学建筑与城市规划学院兼职教授。

主要从事置换通风、室内空气质量建模/评估、绿色建筑、城市微环境等领域的研究及实践。曾获得加拿大国家科学院杰出贡献奖(1995)、美国纽约州科学贡献奖(2003)、日本科技促进交流贡献奖(2007),、ASHRAE杰出贡献奖(2008)、中华人民共和国国家外国专家局前沿外国专家奖(2012)。 担任著名学术期刊《Frontier of Architectural Research》,《International Journal of Building Physics》, 《Building Simulation: an International Journal》等杂志编委,以及《International Journal of Ventilation》和《Science and Technology for The Built Environment》 (HVAC&R Research)副主编。曾任美国供暖、制冷与空调工程师学会, 环境健康委员会主席,现任美国测试与材料学会资深会员,美国供暖、制冷与空调工程师学会会士,国际室内空气科学学会会士,国际建筑物理学会主席。
