The team is committed to teaching and researching on the history and theory of architecture of both China and the West: establishing a cognitive system of traditional Chinese architectural culture based on the comparison of Chinese and Western cultures, interpreting the values of Chinese culture with tectonic, habitat and city and town as the framework; a teaching system of Western architectural culture history focused on the Renaissance; and a teaching system of modern Chinese architectural history with a multi-dimensional historical view combined with tectonic theory. The team adopts a multi-dimensional open and critical research perspective to carry out research topics in compliance with the advanced architectural culture and social development trend, mainly involving construction culture and construction history, modern Chinese architectural culture, garden history, bamboo/wood construction, architecture and urban heritage protection and renewal, contemporary architectural culture, Renaissance city and architecture, etc. The team members have hosted a number of national and provincial research projects, published a large number of related research results in many academic journals, compiled a number of books on architectural culture and theory, and won the Chinese Architectural Book Award, which has had considerable academic influence in China and abroad. The team also combines theoretical research with social practice and is responsible for the renovation of various historical buildings and the protection and regenerantion of historical cities. These works have won many awards such as the Excellence Award for Heritage Conservation in the Asia-Pacific Region of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the Final Selection Award for OPEN DOOR Heritage Conservation Projects of the Royal Institute of British Architects(RIBA), the Gold Award for Architectural Creation of the Architectural Society of China, the Excellent Engineering Survey and Design Award of the Ministry of Construction, and the Excellent Survey and Design Award of the Ministry of Education, and our Professors have been invited to participate in international architectural exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale.
