The Teaching and Research Team of Planning Theory is dedicated to the teaching and research of basic theories of urban and rural planning. It not only adheres to the profound theoretical tradition of Nanjing University’s Urban and Rural Planning, but also is based on the discipline advantages of Nanjing University’s comprehensive arts and sciences. Given the requirements of a more systematic, comprehensive, scientific and human-oriented spatial planning in the new era, the Teaching and Research Team of Planning Theory is committed to cultivating a new generation of planning talents with a broad theoretical foundation, a strong humanistic spirit, an open mind with advanced thoughts. The Teaching and Research Team of Planning Theory consists of 10 members, including 4 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 senior research fellow, and 2 postdoctoral researchers. The main research directions include spatial research and planning theory, urbanization and urban-rural governance, social and cultural space and urban renewal. Members in this team are in charge of 6 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Foundation of China, and 1 sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, mainly involving urban innovation space, the pattern and governance of new city and new district, the management and control of county-level village and town space, transportation hub new city space governance, the governance of old city, old city development transformation and renewal, residents' daily practices and happiness, traffic fairness, rural entrepreneurial migration, etc. The Teaching and Research Team of Planning Theory is responsible for undergraduate courses such as Principles of Planning, History of Urban Planning and Construction, Human and Economic Geography, Urban Sociology and Social Survey, Urban Renewal Planning, Housing and Community Planning, Land and Space Governance and Public Policy. It is also responsible for postgraduate courses such as Urban and Rural Planning Theory and Practice, Regional Studies and Planning, New Advances in Economic Geography, Urban Regional Management and Policy Research, Urban Housing and Social Issues, Urban Cultural Space and Renewal Planning Research etc.
